Rochester, Minnesota: Bahrain’s longest-serving prime minister, Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa, has died at the age of 84 after a short illness.
According to Bahrain’s state news agency BBA, Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa died after a few days in Mayo Hospital in the United States. The body of the Prime Minister will be brought back home and buried.

Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa has declared a week of national mourning over the death of Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman, while ministries and government departments will remain closed for three days.
Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, born on November 24, 1935, has been Prime Minister since 1970, a year before Bahrain’s independence, and has held the record for the longest term in office in the world.

He has also served as the head of the country’s state council and the Supreme Defense Council.
