Another case of polio in Sindh has been reported this year, with 37 children infected

Islamabad: After another polio case has been reported in Sindh, the number of children affected by polio has increased to 13 in the province this year, thus 37 cases have been reported in the country so far.

According to a National Institutes of Health official, the new case surfaced in the Karimbakh, the union council of Thal in the Tehsil district of Jacobabad district.

The victim’s child is 3 years old, whose father is a laborer, the official said.

According to provincial data, the highest number of polio cases have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year, with 18 being followed by 13 in Sindh, 5 in Balochistan and one in Punjab.

It is to be noted that last year, 146 polio cases were recorded in the country whereas in 2018 the number was only 12.

It is important to note that polio is a highly contagious disease that affects most children up to the age of 5 years.

No cure for polio has been discovered so far, although vaccination is the most effective way to keep children safe from the disease.

Every time a child gets polio drops, the virus increases its protection.

However, Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries where polio virus is found so far.

On the other hand, six other Asian countries have recently reported polio cases in China, Burma, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papuanio Guinea and Philippines
