Although born in Somalia, Halima Aden was forced to flee her homeland during the civil war and lived in a refugee camp in neighboring Kenya for a few years.
She later moved to the United States, where she competed in a Minnesota beauty pageant with a hijab.

She gained worldwide fame by wearing a full Islamic dress in the beauty bikini competition and later started her modeling career with hijab.
She is one of the world’s most famous models modeling with hijab. In April 2019, she was featured on the cover of the Arabic language issue of the popular fashion magazine Vogue along with two other hijab models.
