It may be recalled that in June 2011, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken suo motu notice of Atiqa Odho’s release despite two bottles of liquor being recovered from her luggage.

Airport security forces barred Atiqa Odho from boarding a flight from Islamabad to Karachi after alcohol was allegedly found in her luggage, but she was later released by the ASF at the behest of an “influential figure”. ۔

On which the apex court had directed the concerned department to submit a report on Atiqa Odho as to why she was released without registering an FIR, the court had pointed out that the release of the actress was discriminatory.

The case was later heard in the Civil Court in Rawalpindi in 2015 and he was acquitted.

However, the case was reopened and a petition was filed in the Supreme Court in 2017 stating that no trial court was looking into the liquor case against him on the basis of merit.

He had requested the apex court to direct the trial court to give its verdict in accordance with the law.

The court had restrained the trial court from making any decision till the day after which the civil court in Rawalpindi had honorably acquitted him.
