KABUL: The Afghan army attacked Taliban fighters preparing for a military operation, killing 17 and wounding 11.
According to Afghan media, the Ministry of Defense has claimed that 17 Taliban were killed and 11 others, including a commander, were injured in a clash in Faryab province. Taliban fighters were preparing to attack a security checkpoint when the Afghan army stormed.
The Afghan Defense Ministry did not immediately provide evidence in support of its claim, nor did it identify the dead or wounded Taliban fighters, but indicated that more details would be released soon.
The Afghan Taliban have not commented on the deaths of Taliban fighters in the military offensive, but independent sources say a major clash has taken place in the area, with conflicting claims from both sides.
It should be noted that today, the Kabul government and the Taliban have declared a three-day ceasefire in honor of Eid-ul-Adha, saying that military operations and attacks on each other will not take place during the three days of Eid.
